The Columbian's Best of Clark County Competition as voted by the community
The Columbian is a locally owned multi-platform publishing company that has been around since 1890. Through their newspaper (also called The Columbian), their website (www.columbian.com), and many of their other social media/app platforms you can find news and information for southwest Washington. For 136 years, they have provided all you expect and need from a community-forward entity. It is not all doomscrolling with them! They cover many topics that matter in the community of Clark County, from serious updates to the fun you can have around Vancouver, Washington. They take pride in hosting Best of Clark County.
Best of Clark County, or BOCC, is a yearly recognition of what our community has to offer. It is a selection of organizations Clark County considers, well…the best! Since 2008, the community of Clark County has come together to vote for their favorites. The Columbian starts by putting up a list of categories and the top nominees from previous years. The community then either chooses from that list or writes in who they want to nominate for the year. After that period is over, the 8 organizations in each category that received the most nominations will move on. The voting round is naturally what you would expect: all the finalists are listed, and people choose the best for each category.
As a dispensary that loves our community, we’ve committed ourselves to serve for many years and the results have shown up in our wins in the competion, Best of Clark County. "We set out to find the BEST people who could provide a level of customer service that this industry needs…”, said Jim Mullen, co-owner of The Herbery. We succeed because at our core, our staff is full of folks who enjoy sharing and caring. We're the “people’s people” of empathy, honesty, respect, and integrity.
Since 2016, we have participated and won thirteen awards. We make it a fun event for our Herbtenders and celebrate our dedication. We dress up the stores and give our Herbtenders creative buttons to give friendly reminders that it’s time for our customers to let us know we’re right on track. Since our first win, we use BOCC as one of our many temperature checks on how we are doing. We’ve used them as an indicator that a blend of fun and professionalism in cannabis is what folks are really craving! We grew and adapted; that is only possible with an open ear and authentic care for the voices of our community. This feedback allows us to commit ourselves to the cannabis world and that is why we are the ONLY dispensary to be featured in Best of Clark County’s Hall of Fame. That count doesn’t even include our fantastic Herbtenders who also won awards of their own!
From 2021 to 2025, there was a sub category introduced called Best Budtender. We are fierce competitors in the Budtender category as we have all our Herbtenders certified before day one. We like to guarantee that our Herbtenders are a reliable source of information. Come nomination time, we had pins for our Herbtenders during nomination time with their names on it so customers knew the name of the person they wanted nominated. We have made it to the voting rounds with not just one Herbtender but a whole collection of our most dedicated. We even had one Herbtender win twice! While that category has ended, we believe that our 13th win for a ninth year represents that ALL our Herbtenders were the Best Budtenders. It is how we know we are continuing to do a beneficial job. We truly appreciate our community and we look forward to the future as we do what we can as a dispensary to invest in Clark County. We love Clark County and we feel their love!
